Camberwell Centre

The Camberwell Centre is located at St Dunstan’s Anglican Church Hall on Wattle Valley Road, half-way between Riversdale and Toorak Roads. Our classes are held on Monday mornings from 10.30am. We often spill out of our cosy hall onto the grassy area out the front of the church to enjoy our tai chi in the fresh air.

The Centre is run by Instructor Jo Fraser, with wonderful support from Assistant Instructor Catriona Wells and Trainee Instructors, Amanda Cubit and Judith Michael. We regularly get together to plan and discuss how best to teach our students (always over lunch) and we all attend regular Instructor Training with Grandmaster Eng Chor and Senior Master Chin Min. We also attend Supplementary Training with Senior Instructor Wally Wilkinson, sessions that are always though provoking and get us talking about the nitty-gritty of various moves.

We love teaching people of all ages and abilities and are all very practised at modifying moves to make them more achievable and comfortable for those with physical limitations. Beginners are welcome any time and we run a permanent revision class for those who would like to continue to learn more about the Yang style, but don’t want to learn a new form.

We teach advanced tai chi and qigong forms for an extra half-hour from 11.30 to 12noon. In addition to Yang 108 Tai Chi, we offer Beijing 24, Tao Yin Qigong, Warrior Lohan Qigong, Wild Goose Qigong, Shibashi Qigong Sets 1, 2 and 3, Shaolin Qigong, Six Combination Qigong Palms, and the Chinese Health Qigong forms of Ba Duan Jin, Yi Jin Jing and the Taiji Stick. Weapons taught include the Flute and Phoenix Fan.
