Grand Master Eng Chor Khor and Senior Master Chin Min Lian delighted the diners at the annual Celestial Tai Chi College Banquet held at the Shark Fin Inn in Chinatown on Sunday 24 November, 2019.
There were 130 at the banquet representing all 16 Celestial centres and that was a fitting end to the year. After a delicious banquet and as a surprise to those present, the Masters donned their silks and performed some Qigong and Tai Chi forms. Senior Master Chin Min Lian performed the Mawang Dui and Daoyin Qigong routines and Grand Master Eng Chor Khor performed the Dayan (Wild Goose) Qigong and a cameo of Tai Chi forms incorporating the Celestial Tai Chi elements. The students and Instructors were enthralled by this display of our College Masters.
The banquet marked the retirement from the teaching staff of our much-loved Senior Instructor Mario Cianci. Mario has been with the College for 27 years and an Instructor over the time at Camberwell, Hawthorn, Doncaster, Doncaster East and Box Hill. To mark the occasion, Mario was presented with a gift and was lauded by both Masters.
The banquet is the occasion at which promotions are announced:
Thessa Sampson, Anne-Marie Quarrell, Yelena Gul and Sze Ho Lee from the Brighton centre were all appointed Assistant Instructors. Christine Koh was appointed Instructor co-in charge of the Doncaster East day class and Edward Yong from the Box Hill and Kew centres was appointed an Instructor.
Congratulations to all of these dedicated members of the training team.
I then presented the Masters and their wives with gifts in appreciation from the training team. I spoke about how their form of leadership and knowledge has inspired great loyalty within the College with just the Instructors at Ashburton and Kew having more than 200 years of Tai Chi experience between them. There would be very few organisations with this type of dedicated staff which is a testament of the Masters’ dedication to Tai Chi and Qigong.
A good time had by all.
