2022 has been a year of recovery. We are all recovering from the pandemic and the various lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. Many businesses are recovering from the impact of Covid on the economy and even our tai chi classes are recovering from the many interruptions to classes last year. But one thing we are all thankful for is that 2022 was a much better year than the last two years. We, the college, have recovered. We’ve been able to conduct workshops, philosophy lessons and park lessons. Above all, we’ve been able to run all classes as planned. Unfortunately, we will not have a college-wide annual dinner at the end of the year, but we encourage each centre to have their own end-of-year dinner if possible.
Relocation of class centres
This year saw the relocation of various class centres.
- Brighton class relocated to St Kilda (Betty Day Community Centre, 67 Argyle Street)
- Kew class relocated to Hawthorn (Auburn High School, Tooronga Road)
- South Yarra class relocated to Armadale (Armadale Baptist Church, 88 Kooyong Road)
- Werribee class relocated to Hoppers Crossing (Central Park Community Centre, 80 Lonsdale Circuit)
- Eltham and Preston classes have also moved to new venues.
Thank you to all those who continue to support the college and their class instructors in spite of these relocations.
Looking ahead to 2023
We will kick start the new year with various summer park lessons in January in different areas and formal classes will resume in the week commencing on the 30th of January 2023. Once again, we are committed to bringing to you our Qigong Master Classes and Philosophy Master Classes. Grandmaster Eng Chor and I look forward to imparting our lifelong experience, skills and knowledge to you at these classes. End-of-term Saturday Park Lessons will again be conducted at various locations, to make them more accessible to our students, while the end-of-term Sunday Park Lessons will alternate between Fairfield and Box Hill parks.
New fee structure in 2023
After much consideration, I wish to announce that a new fee structure will take effect from January 2023 as follows:
Standard fee: $85 per term
Concession fee: $75 per term
The last increase in fees was in 2013. Last year there was only a slight fee adjustment to remove the need to handle coins due to the pandemic. In the last 10 years, the cost of running our classes has escalated considerably and hence this increase is inevitable. Please, be assured that this decision was not made lightly.
Overcoming fear with hope
As we conclude the year, we all look towards Christmas, a time of celebration and a season of joy. Long years of pandemic have caused many to feel fearful and anxious. Let us overcome fear with hope – hope for a better year ahead, hope that even if Covid remains, our resolve to stay healthy and well remain strong. A popular Bible verse says, “Without hope, people perish.” Let me en-courage you by saying this, “Regular practice of Tai Chi and Qigong keeps your body healthy and well, even in the midst of Covid.”
Finally, on behalf of GM Eng Chor and all your instructors, I wish you a
BLESSED & A JOYOUS CHRISTMAS and a HEALTHY NEW YEAR.
Salutation & Best Wishes from
Senior Master Chin Min Lian
