2023 Qigong Master Class

On Saturday the 12th August Grand Master Eng Chor Khor presented a Master Class Qigong at Maribyrnong Park Bowls Club in Moonee Ponds. The session which went from 1pm to 4pm covered the theory, history and the health benefits of Qigong and also the practice and instruction of some popular Qigong routines.
The word Qigong means ‘Energy Work’ and GM Eng Chor explained that this implied using the breath in combination with physical movement. We commenced with Shibashi Qigong. Some of the movement forms we practiced included: Painting the Rainbow, Rowing the Boat, and Gazing at the Moon, to name just a few.
GM Eng Chor then spoke of the Five Animals Qigong (Wu Qin Xi) demonstrating each one before teaching us the movements and the breathing techniques. The movements consisted of stretches, rotations and the bending of the spine to varying degrees. These were very difficult but everyone was keen to follow the Masters instructions.

The Five Animals Qigong are the Tiger, the Deer, the Bear, the Monkey and the Bird. My favorite animal was the Bear and to watch GM Eng Chor move in the motion of this animal was wonderful. In closing we were treated to a very calming meditation and relaxation.
Thank you Grand Master Eng Chor for an inspiring Master Class. I now plan to study and practice the Five Animals Qigong because of your teaching.

Very Rewarding Afternoon with Grand Master Eng Chor Khor

The Qigong Master Class with Grand Master Eng Chor covered many aspects of the theory and health benefits of Qigong, but the most rewarding was his introduction to the Five Animals Qigong (Wu Qin Xi) routine. These deceptively uncomplicated forms based on animal movements required some concentration and truly provided exercise for the whole body. Many participants, although tired, were hooked on learning and practicing this routine into the future.
