The College Cultural Tour was amazing with ten of us with a passion for Tai Chi and love of travel joined Grand Master Eng Chor Khor to travel from Xinjiang, China to Uzbekistan following the Silk Road.
We arrived in Urumqi, the main town of Xinjiang the Uyghur Chinese Autonomous Region – it is modern with many high rise buildings and wide roads. Drove hundreds of kilometres to Turpan and Korla stopping on the way to see scenic attractions like the Bositeng Lake and Tianchi Lake (Jade Pool) and historically cultural places like the ruins of Subash Ancient city.
We then flew to Tashkent the capital of Uzbekistan. It is a beautiful Muslim city and the huge mosques are some of the attractions there. We also enjoyed the hospitality and yummy food as well.
One of the highlights for me was attending the 9th International Martial Arts and Games Competition (IMAG) in Tashkent where three of us performed Beijing 24 to a receptive audience.
As we were tourists, shopping at a bazaar is almost compulsory and so we went to the Chorsu Bazaar bustling with locals and tourists.
Of course, we practised Tai Chi with Grand Master Eng Chor most mornings and whenever an opportunity cropped up.
All in all, we all had a wonderful time in both China and Uzbekistan.
