Cultural Tour Vietnam/Malaysia (2011)

Vietnam is a lush tropical country featuring a history of Imperial Dynasty’s, a French Colonial past, the recent war with the USA and the reunification of the north and south into a communist country.  The people are kind and gentle and the cuisine is delicious.  The shopping is also worthwhile.

There were 10 of us in the tour group led by Grand Master Eng Chor Khor.  Every morning usually at 7am we practiced our Tai Chi with the Grand Master who also gave us lessons in a new (to us) Qi Qong form (Win Chun) every day.

The rest of the day was spent sight-seeing the many Temples, Citadels, ancient and modern cities, taking boat trips in the ancient capital, on the UNESCO World Heritage Halong Bay, and the Mekong Delta, also taking in the country from Hanoi in the north to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) in the south.   Every meal along the way was sumptuous and many a banquet was served to us in beautiful old colonial French buildings.

The Vietnamese are proud of their history and are taking great pains to preserve all their heritage.

Whenever we had a waiting period during the trip, we used the opportunity to perform Tai Chi - with highlights including the sight of Vietnam’s first capital Hoa Lu at the foot of large rock formations dotted with Temples, and the most memorable being during a thunderstorm at the Imperial Citadel in Hue in a pavilion beside a lake that was filled with lotus lilies.

We ended our tour with several days in Malacca which is a world Heritage city in Malaysia.  Again the sightseeing and the food was first class.  A highlight of this stage was a performance by Grand Master Eng Chor and the Instructors in a group at a Tea House, this being a supporting act to the normal entertainment provided at the venue.
