The Eltham centre is located at St Margaret’s Church Hall in Pitt Street, Eltham. Classes are conducted on Fridays from 10.00 a.m. to midday. Additional free weekly classes are run throughout the summer break at Alistair Knox Park.
The centre prides itself on providing a friendly environment where students are warmly welcomed and invited to enjoy the process of learning and achieving.
Being a daytime class, many of the students are retired or working part-time. Some are seeking a gentle exercise regime as they manage a variety of health issues including arthritis, heart disease, osteoporosis and hip and knee replacements. Others are looking for relaxation and stress management techniques.
Many of the team of instructors have health issues for which they have found Tai Chi beneficial, even life saving. This is reflected in their approach to instructing. They endeavor to modify movements to suit individual needs and to respect the need for endless repetition. Students have said that “patience” should be our middle name.
The team is led by Senior Instructor Suzette Hosken. She is strongly supported by Assistant Instructors Linda Samson, James Owen and Catriona Wells, Trainee Instructors Sue Hawthorne and Judith Michael, and helpers Gary Stirton and Kirsty Freeman. We meet regularly to ensure we are consistent in our teachings. We regularly attend training and workshops with Grand Master Eng Chor Khor, Senior Master Chin Min Lian and Senior Instructors.
The centre offers: Yang-Style Tai Chi Levels 1 – 6, Beijing 24, Phoenix Fan, 32 Sword, Flute, Shibashi Qigong Sets 1, 2 and 3, Warrior Lohan Qigong, Tao Yin, Wild Goose Qigong, Daoyin 12-Movement Qigong, Ba Duan Jin Qigong.
